The Problem
Stepping into a brand new work environment, while exciting, naturally brings some anxiety for many new hires. Early days and weeks can be overwhelming, and waiting to train them until their first day on the job often leads to a stressful trial by fire, taking significant time (yours, theirs, and your team’s) to bring them up to speed.
Often, a new employee arrives for their first day on the job, discovering that things aren’t quite what they expected and don’t want to appear unqualified—so they avoid asking too many questions or bothering other team members. Their onboarding slows to a crawl, stress is high, and productivity takes weeks to ramp up.
Additionally, the hiring process for some roles can be lengthy and costly to an organization, so preparing new hires to hit the ground running is vital to ensuring a company’s investment in the hiring process.
The Solution
A comprehensive pre boarding program provides enormous opportunity to offer engagement and early training during the “Yes to Desk” period. This work sample is a concept piece designed to give sales new hires a brief, high level outline of their first week so they know what to expect, and would ideally be included in a larger program.
Design approach
I used a template driven, agile approach to this project, quickly developing content and curating images to design an engaging element for inclusion in a comprehensive pre boarding program.
